Hostel Services

Services in both Mary MacKillop and Paling Court Hostels include:

  • Qualificed care staff, including registered nurses, are employed in each Hostel to provide quality care to our residents.
  • Meals are provided in the dining rooms or in their own room if the resident is ill.  Special diets catering for purees, diabetics, and cultural preferences are taken into consideration.

  • Personal care is provided at no extra cost for those in need of assistance with the activities of daily living.

  • A Nurse Call Button is provided in each bathroom, and a pendant for around the neck of the resident in case of an emergency.  Staff members monitor this call system 24 hours per day.

  • Furniture:  The rooms allow for residents to bring their own furniture and personal items, to give the rooms a home-like appearance and add to the comfort of the resident. In some cases it may be necessary to use the bed provided by the Hostel to aid in the care of the resident.  The Hostel Manager will discuss all aspects of furnishing with you prior to admission.

  • A Kiosk/Shop is available in all three low care facilities each day for residents to purchase extra items they might need.  The kiosks are run by residents from self-care (retirement village).

  • Hairdresser is available in all three facilities, in purpose built salons.

  • Health Services:  Physiotherapy is provided on site, and a podiatrist, dietitian, dentist, pharmacist and optometrist is available for consultation.  Doctors of choice visit the Hostel Clinics three times per week.  Additional charges may apply for these services.

  • Diversional Therapy Staff organise outings, activities, concerts and exercises according to choice and ability of residents, five days per week.

  • A Telephone Line is available for your personal use in each resident's room with the exception of the dementia specific unit (to ensure residents are not disturbed at inappropriate times and to minimise confusion).

  • There is a Television connection point in each room for personal viewing.

    Respite Service

Carrington can provide a Respite Service on a temporary basis for people who are normally cared for at home by family or friends.  Six respite care beds are available in our Hostels, three of which are located in our dementia specific wing.  Clients can have up to a total of 56 days of respite in a financial year.  An ACCR assessment is required for respite accommodation.
