Computer Club for Seniors
Seniors residing in the Camden local government area are welcome to join the Carrington Computer Club for Seniors which is located in the grounds of the retirement village.
Carrington Computer Club for Seniors was formed in August 2001 in an endeavour to generally promote practical support and mental stimulus for the aged community and specifically to assist both village and community residents to learn how to use computers. By 2010 more than 2,500 training places have been successfully concluded.
The ongoing practical support of Carrington Centennial Care enables membership contributions to be maintained at nominal values.
The Club meets on the first Monday of each month in Carrington's Recreation Centre at 1.30 p.m. A guest speaker is present for each monthly meeting, covering subjects related to computers or other interests for seniors. Afternoon tea is supplied.
The Club has its own training room in which up to eight members per session receive structured instruction in a variety of course subjects.

Training sessions are usually of three hour duration including a mid-session refreshment break. Training courses may vary between four and eight weekly training sessions. The Club is structured to assist seniors - not examine them.
All training is conducted in a relaxed atmosphere and at a pace appropriate for seniors. There are no tests or ratings during training, nor are there any passes or failures, merely the issuing of a course attendance cerificate.
Both trainers and their helpers strive to ensure learners have fun and enjoy each training session. Emphasis is place on giving special assistance to slow learners.
The Club's philosophy is that it is moreimportant for the learner to learn than the teacher to teach.
The training room is also used each week for inividual activity or one-on-one training.
Each month Club members produce a four page and twelve page newsletter together with various promotional materials on behalf of other local seniors' groups. In fact the Club has received awards for the standard of its publications.
