Carrington Girls Calendar
19 August, 2010

Carrington Retirement Village's own Calendar Girls have launched their 2011 calendar.
The ladies from our Village who range in age from their mid-60s to late 70s whipped off their clothes and with a few strategically positioned props have followed the road of so many before them.
The Carrignton ladies did it with style, elegance and quite a bit of imagination - all with the aim of raising funds for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and the residents of the Village.
Many of the ladies have been touched by the disease, either personally or have seen a loved one battle or succumb to it.
Shirley Curtain, the brains behind the calendar, said it's amazing what can be agreed to at a lazy Saturday barbeque in May.
This put things in motion and after a few knockbacks from photographers, Suzi and Jodi from Gorgeous Photography and Design, Camden, gladly undertook the task.
There was much laughter and fun in producing the calendar which couldn't have been possible without the generous support of local sponsors.

Carrington Quilts
2 August, 2010

The Carrington Quilts were commissioned by the Management of Carrington in April 2009 and completed in June 2010. The Carrington Quilts were unveiled in Grasmere Terrace Facility on Friday, 30 July 2010. The artwork comprises five large quilts of contemporary textile assembly made specifically to hang in the community area of the dining room in Grasmere Terrace facility.
The quilts depict the history of Carrington Retirement Village from the time of William Henry Paling's Centennial gift in 1889, together with other benefactors, of land, buildings and money, through to the present day.
The design of the quilts recognises William Paling's, and other benefactors, generous donation to the people of NSW. It is represented by a pathway of piano keys along the lower edges of the quilts, in the shape of a grand piano. Aboriginal themed fabrics have been used here, and in sections of the landscape, to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land.
The large space dictated something bold and simple, and the makers of the Carrington quilts wanted the residents of Carrington to be able to feel a connection with the quilts. The colours were chosen to reflect the natural surroundings and complement the interior decor of Grasmere Terrace Facility.
In addition to portraying the history, buildings and landscape, the makers of the quilts wanted to acknowledge the people who have contributed to the development of Carrington Care.
The Board and management wish to thank and acknowledge the talent and the effort of the quilt makers. The Bower Art Quilters is a group of six quilt makers from the Camden area, who came together to combine their skills and expertise into the making of these wonderful quilts.
The Bower Art Quilters are Barbara Gower, Dianne Harris, Jo Neich, Wendy Mied, Pam Hatch and Susan Wilson. The quilts were quilted by Kim Bradley.
